Last Night's Affair: Bivio Italia Chianti 2007

The Affair:

Yesterday was one of those days... you know the ones where you wake up, it's raining, cold, windy, and you think to yourself that you are probably better off just staying in bed?

Well, this time, I'm glad that I pulled on a uncomfortable combination several layers of mismatched clothing including shirts, sweaters, and a jacket, got into my car, and drove through the rain to the golf course. As if someone planned it this way, the rain stopped the second I turned off the ignition and the sun came out to kiss me hello as I stepped out of the car. Unfortunately, my golf game wasn't so lucky to have been blessed by this divine intervention. But hey, you can't win 'em all, right?

TEXSOM International Wine Awards

TEXSOM IN CONJUNCTION WITH PRESENTING SPONSOR TEXAS MONTHLY ARE PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THE MEDALISTS OF THE TEXSOM INTERNATIONAL WINE AWARDS 2015.

TEXSOM’s newest endeavor, the continuation of the wine competition founded by Rebecca Murphy thirty-one years ago, is now supported by 68 judges, 28 sommelier panel members, more than 50 volunteers, and a staff of 8 working together to present the nearly 3,600 entries. This year¹s Awards was the largest and most diverse selection of wines in the history of the competition. The breadth of the wine world was represented. A group of the most experienced wine professionals in the country convened to evaluate and select the 2,600 wines that were deemed worthy of medals.

Introducing Award-Winning Radevic Estate Wines

Montenegrin wine maker is poised to become a sensation state-side.
June 26, 2015, New York, NY — Discerning palates in the United States will now be able to sample the outstanding Montenegrin wines that have rest of the world talking. Radevic Estates is pleased to announce that their wines are now available in New York.

Varieties include Syrah and Vranac/Cabernet Sauvignon.  Vranac is an ancient variety of grape that is native to Montenegro and produces a dry red wine, typical of the region. It is considered the most important variety of grape in Montenegro. The word ‘Vranac’ means strong, black and powerful horse (black stallion), and wine made from this variety of grape is associated with strength, potency, and success. Vran also means ‘rav en colored or black’; red wine is also known as black wine in many South Slavic languages.
